Math Study Guide Chapters 7 and 8

Math Study Guide for Chapters 7 and 8
Academic vocabulary: quotient, dividend, divisor, (p. 297), fact family, number sentence (p.333), expression (p.338), function (p.348), rule (p.344).
Students will be given various division problems to solve. (Remember: students can draw a picture or an array to solve the problems.)
Students will also be given 3 numbers and are expected to write out the fact family for all three: Example: The fact family for 8,4,32 is
8x4=32
4x8=32
32/8=4
32/4=8
Students will also be given a function table and be expected to fill in the blanks and find the rule: Example:  




Know the difference between a number sentence and an expression.
Number sentence: 8x7=56 or 4x2>2x2
Expression: 8x7 or 4x2
An expression does not have an = or >or< sign.




Science Study Guide Chapter 6

Science Study Guide for Chapter 6

·        Study the different types of Earth’s landforms and their characteristics (C55)
·        Describe and identify natural causes of change in the Earth’s surface and be able to identify which causes work slowly and which causes work quickly. (C58-C75)

The following concepts from chapter 5 will be reinforced on this test:
·        What is the difference between renewable and non-renewable resources? Give 2 examples of each.(C40-C41)
·        Identify Earth materials used to construct some common objects on Earth. (Some of Earth’s materials such as rocks, and wood from trees are used to make buildings, roads, bridges, and glass.)
·        Describe how materials taken from the Earth can be used as fuels for heating and transportation. (C26)

Spelling Lists for 1/14/2011 and other homework assignments

Dear parents and students:
I will be out of the building on Monday 1/14 and Tuesday 1/15 due to illness. All homework assignments will that are posted below will be due on Friday 1/18. This change will only be for this week. Next week we will resume with our daily homework logs and assignments.

Assignments for the week of 1/14:

  • write your spelling words 3 times each.
  • write your spelling words in ABC order.
  • Math worksheet (multiplication and division)
  • Science questions Think and Write on pages C 75 in your Science book. Remember to answer questions in complete sentences.
  • Science Chapter 6 review on pages C76 and C77. Students will have a chance to start this in class and whatever is not done is to be finished at home.
  • Math Chapter 7 Study guide and review. Text book pages 322-326. this study guide is very long. Students will have time to start it in class and whatever is not done in class is homework.
